This could possibly make it slightly harder to sell back later, if that's what you're planning to do. But most college bookstores will take it back to sell it, even with a corner of the cover missing. And if you're planning on marking it up or not selling it back, it makes no difference.

The amazon itself is usually very competitive and they're a legit business so i usually try to buy from them unless someone else price is way lower because there is basically no chance that you'd get screwed.

By default a lot of the book shipping is through media mail with 3rd parties and that can take upwards of an entire month for delivery — this is fine if you bought your stuff way ahead of the start of the semester. But if you've already started school probably not the best idea — pay the extra for expedited shipping.
